pYou have just completed your first book, now what? If you are a first time author, you may be unsure as to how you should proceed, in terms of getting your book published. This article, although not full of great detail, it will give you the basic road map to getting your work published.br /br / The first thing to research is the publishers. You need to become acquainted with who they are and what they require. You need to find the basic information about them, their address, the contacts and who should receive your manuscript. Do enough research so you know who you are dealing with. Are they looking for specific styles? Will your book be a good match? You need to understand the format the publisher expects to receive your manuscript. Does the publisher in question only accept agent submissions? These are all important questions that you need to have answers to.br /br / As for how you can go about locating book publishers, you will be happy with all of your choices. You can look at the books that you have in your library, the books in your local library, or the books in your local bookstores. Take note of the publishers and perform a search on the internet with their titles. Next, look for a section for writers guidelines. You can also perform a general standard internet search, such as with the phrase book publishers. There are also a number of printed resources, like the popular Writers Market books, that are available to you..br /br / As earlier mentioned, you will want to know what guidelines and constraints publishing organizations may have. If you cant find this information online or in print, be sure to use your best judgment. Make sure that your book manuscript and all other paperwork are easy to read, formatted properly, and clean. Also, be sure to include a cover letter and a book proposal. Many authors choose to merge these two documents together. You can, but, be very careful. Cover letters and book proposals should be right to the point and not confused with too much unecessary detail.br /br / You should also consider utilizing the services of specialized literary agent and editors. They can be high priced, but they are generally more than worth the costs. No matter how good you are at editing, you will probably miss some mistakes. Another set of professional eyes are encouraged. As for literary agents, they too have a range of benefits. If the publishers that match your book the best only take agented submissions, it may be more effective to employ a skilled literary agent. They can help get your book into doors that you could not.br /br / As for follow-ups, they are okay, but also be sure to use your best judgment. You can find out from most publishers websites, how long it will take to get a response. It may take as long as 3 or 4 months in some cases. If you do not receive a response by that time, consider placing a phone call or sending a letter to the publisher in question. For your own protection though, do not make contact before the estimated response time.br /br / If you do your homework and with any luck, you may be able to see your work in print shortly. As a reminder however, do not be scared of rejection letters. Rejection letters are are very common and are not a sign to give up. Only a sign to do more homework and keep trying. You are only one submission closer to success.br /br / a href=http://www.bookcoversdesign.comBook Cover Design/abr /a href=http://www.bookcoversdesign.com/book_cover_gallery.htmlBook Cover Design Examples/a/p
